Hutches Boarding is owned by Joanne Lockley who has been involved in the Small Animal Boarding industry for many years. Joanne Lockley is well trained to look after your animals having previously been employed by pet shops, boarding kennels, vet’s practice and various other animal companies. Joanne also has her own pet rabbits and guinea pigs.
She is assisted by husband Ken who has now retired from a busy life in Travel and Hospitality and is now working alongside Joanne. Ken has always had a love of animals and had his own pets since childhood.
We have 60 hutches, 28 devoted to rabbits and the remainder for Guinea Pigs. We also have 6 hamster tanks.
The rabbit accommodation is sub-divided as follows:
Rabbits kept primarily indoors (house rabbits etc) are housed in purpose built 6-foot (183cm) hutches within our stone built converted stable.
Outdoor rabbits are housed in purpose built 6-foot (183cm) hutches within our fox and badger proof cage area, which has a roof and plastic insulated walls to protect it from extreme weather – both summer heat and winter cold.
All rabbits receive plenty of outside time in individual runs within a dedicated grassed area. We use Rabbit Omlet runs with a wide mesh floor to inhibit digging.
Guinea Pig accommodation
We house our Guinea Pigs in purpose built 4-foot (120cm) hutches suitable for 1 or 2 Guinea Pigs sharing.
For 3 Guinea Pigs sharing, they are housed in 4.5-foot (137cm) hutches.
For 4 Guinea Pigs sharing – these are housed in a 6-foot (183cm) hutch for maximum space and comfort.
As with our rabbit boarders they receive plenty of outside time in individual runs within a dedicated grassed area. We use Guinea Pig Omlet runs which are portable to ensure plentiful grazing.
